Brent was born in the suburbs of the American South to a family of artists. During his formative years he took multiple trips to the Western United States including Colorado and New Mexico where he was enamored by the slower lifestyle, creative culture, and vast landscapes. As soon as possible, Brent left the South and found himself in Nederland, Colorado - where he resides to this day.
Brent studied fine art at CU Boulder and graduated with a BFA in Integrated Arts where he focused on painting, multimedia, and sound art. During his time at CU, he was fortunate to have traveled abroad extensively showing artwork in Museums and Universities throughout Central and South America. His artwork has been shown in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, and is in the homes of many prominent collectors.
As long as I can remember, I have had an affinity for incessant day-dreaming. When I was young I would lay on the ground and look up at the ceiling wondering what life would be like upside down. I have always been intrigued by distorting perspectives - constructing landscapes the way I experience them. When I discover a new landscape I fully immerse myself in the scene to uncover the true visceral feel of the area. My work uses fragmented montage, a sort of reel of imagined landscapes that I mentally stitch together to form my exaggerated version of the surrounding environment.
