Brent was born in the suburbs of the American South to a family of artists. During his formative years he took multiple trips to the Western United States including Colorado and New Mexico where he was enamored by the slower lifestyle, creative culture, and vast landscapes. As soon as possible, Brent left the South and found himself in Nederland, Colorado - where he resides to this day.
Brent studied fine art at CU Boulder and graduated with a BFA in Integrated Arts where he focused on painting, multimedia, and sound art. During his time at CU, he was fortunate to have traveled abroad extensively showing artwork in Museums and Universities throughout Central and South America. His artwork has been shown in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, and is in the homes of many prominent collectors.
Each new scene and landscape I encounter captivates me like it did when I was a kid. I am always finding myself fascinated at the endless elegance this world has to offer. Framed through a contemporary lens, my paintings allow me to explore the landscape as much as the do my mind.
I create with the intention of transforming the familiar. Scenes that I have experienced take on new forms as they grow on the canvas through a mix of precise details and gestural brushstrokes. I loosely plan my compositions and allow my work to grow with each intuitive nudge giving the painting an original magical aesthetic. My work is heavily rooted in traditional landscape painting with a contemporary, surreal, and neo classical twist.
